Sustainability Hui

Kia ora koutou

Thank you for registering your school to take part in "Kidz Connect" - the first Hutt City hui on sustainability. We look forward to seeing you there.

Nā Whaea Sandy Croft- Beech nō te Kaunihera o Te Awakairangi te hui nei i whakatū. I tae atu mātou i runga anō i tō mātou ngākaunui ki tēnei mea te "Sustainability"
Arrival:
The hui takes place in the Horticultural Hall, 30 Laings Road opposite the i-Site information centre.
Start time is 9.30 am with a welcome from Hutt Intermediate students so it would be appreciated if you could all be seated in the hall by then.

 Parking:
There is metered parking close to the venue this will cost $6 but the closest all day free parking would be some distance away. I tango mātou e $6 mai i te Tari mō te utu i te parking nei :) I whakahoki a Kōkā Rawinia tēnei utu ki te Tari i te Rāapa


Programme:
Morning
Key issues will be discussed in a series of short sessions starting at 10 am.
Your students will meet in groups with students from other schools to share ideas about –
· what is sustainability and why is it important to take action
· what activities are schools currently involved in and would like to be involved in for the future
· what our city is like for kids and how we can make it better
· what the sustainability issues are for individuals, homes, schools and the world.....

Lunch
Lunch is BYO. Our beautiful artesian water is available just across the road to refill your drink bottles – at a press of the button. There will be a half hour break for lunch that could be eaten inside or out in the park area if it is fine.

Afternoon
In the afternoon students will be able to do 5 or 6 activities from the 10 being offered (depending on how time goes).

There will be an introduction to the Cloak of Protection game, making your own hand cream, a number of art and craft activities making things from natural or recyclable materials, learning about the soil and working with it, some garden activities, kneading bread.......

Whatever they make, students will be able to take back to school with them. Throughout the day, each child will be able to create their own “badge of commitment” to take home.

 



What to bring:
Students only need to bring a picnic style lunch and there will be spot prizes for sustainably packaged lunch boxes.
They will each be given a presentation water bottle and pen on arrival so won't need to bring those.
