Hui Kaiako TOD

Feedback from Marama re TOD 11th October 2012.

....I just wanted to feed back to you about the wonderful day Hans and I spent with your staff in the holidays. We felt very privileged to be involved in the sharing of the mahi that you and your staff have been undertaking. It was a very professional, high quality day that was well organised and presented. The thread of the korero was evident from the big picture of the Marau a Kura through to inquiry and then into the maths and taiao areas. I think overall the day was a success and captured the intent of showcasing both Tu Rangatira and Inquiry and how these two can be woven across all aspects of the kura.

Key ideas which came out of the day for us were:
1. Mana Reo - te reo rangatira. Ka taea e te katoa ki te korero i nga wa katoa i roto i te reo.
2. -Qualtiy of leadership and layers of leadership - from DP's to ohu leaders, kaiako and kaiarahi Your leadership was also evident in the content and quality of presentations
3. Mahi Tahi - clear evidence of whakawhanaungatanga and working together to achieve goals
4. Qualtiy teaching practice evident in presentations - planning, variety, use of different resources
5. Inquiry visible in all presentations indicating different layers of inquiry across the kura
6. Children at the centre - we saw the systems and programmes developed to achieve quality outcomes for tamariki
7. Links to Tu Rangatira clear across the board
8. Professionalism
9. High Standards across the board


Te Taiao

Starting with the history and overview of taiao education in the kura from the small beginnings of wanting to create a garden to now having te taiao as the major kaupapa for the marau a kura. The presentation included information and activities to showcase the different aspects of te matauranga taiao that the school are involved in. Again we saw the engagement of all the staff, their individual involvement in different aspects of the programme. Different staff were also included in the presentation to share information and engage staff in activities related to the kaupapa. Inquiry was a key focus of the presentation and regular mention was made of the use of the 6xW and H to develop the kaupapa. The team connected back to the inclusion of "te taiao hei pou arahi mo te kura".


WHERE TO NOW

Our summary is that the quality of leadership and assessment in your kura is at a high level and that you already have Tu Rangatira and inquiry embedded in your practice.
